Today I was prompted by Facebook to create the cool “year in review” post–where Facebook pulls the highlights of your year, and creates a synopsis of your best moments from the year to post on your personal page (check mine out here.)

Some of my highlights included hosting a retreat for our leaders in our brand new home on the lake (something I’ve dreamed of doing for years–I love to entertain, and adore treating my team); hosting a 10 year vow renewal at our home with our family (when we first got married we could barely afford a wedding. We now LOVE blessing people in our home); travel around the world (incentive trips are perks of our profession–we couldn’t afford international travel before network marketing); Rock Your Network Marketing Business being a best-seller in network-marketing books all year long (thanks to you); and the best part of the year??? Walking out our reason “WHY”–opening a home for 117 children in India, providing housing, a clean water well, food, and love! Never did I imagine that any of this would be possible…but as I reflected on my “year in review” I realized it was all possible because of network marketing. That is the power of our profession–living life on our terms, and living a life we truly love with those we love.

I know there are days that seem daunting–when you pick up the phone and hear uncounted “nos”. I realize there are times we face rejection (heck my own sisters don’t do the business–but we all have our own path). I understand that it takes time and daily effort to be successful (it took me 3 months to recruit my first consultant!) But when I think about which was greater–the risks and rejection, or the reward– I see the true rewards that lie before my eyes, and I know without a doubt that it was all worth it!

Never give up on your dreams my friends–you don’t need a new opportunity in the New Year, you need a new commitment to your opportunity! It won’t always be easy–but the rewards will be so worth it. You can do anything for a short period of time to produce the long term rewards that you desire and your family deserves. You are creating a legacy for your family–there’s no other business model out there that allows us to do what we do, live how we live, and give how we give. Give your business the attention it needs and time it takes (it took me 7 years to get to where we are today)–there is NOTHING like seeing your reason “WHY” in action…

The Gift Series- Your LIFE is a Gift

Last week we talked about how our LOVE is a gift. I shared the story of opening our 100 child home in India. Following the story, many innocently replied “I wish I had the money to be able to do that too.”

Often times we lose sight of the simple fact that our LOVE is a gift. One of the greatest gifts we can offer to others is free–the gift of time spent. Time is the currency of relationships.

Over the weekend, I really challenged myself in this way too. I was invited to a Gingerbread House Competition by my sisters Katie and Emily. I gladly went, although it’s not my cup of tea (anything with the word “competition” makes me sweat!) However, developing those relationships are far more important than our own peronal comfort. (*I ended up having a ton of fun!)

I also went to the same show two times over the weekend, because different friends wanted to go at different times. Although I had already seen it, I went again to further those relationships because those relationships by far, are more important than our own personal convenience.

This holiday season (and into 2015) I want you to focus on finding true joy in giving your life (by giving your time) to others– sacrifice your own personal comfort or convenience. “Live to Give”! Write down on a notecard: “Who can I bless today?” When we focus on meeting other’s needs, our needs are met. Here’s a great example…

I’ll never forget when one of my greatest heroes (my Aunt Lorrie Rulla) was diagnosed with cancer–and the diagnosis was incredibly grim. Instead of focusing on what her needs were, she would go to her treatments, and wrap bibles for the other patients to gift to them. She would spend time encouraging them, and focused on being a blessing to them. (*she is cancer-free today, many years later!) She sowed a seed in her time of need. In return, she’s lived a blessed life and continues to be a blessing to many!

I believe that many people would see the miracle they had been longing for if they stopped focusing on their own need, but instead focus on how they could plant a seed of goodness or kindness into someone else’s life–whether it’s through our time (spending time with people); our talent (if you’re a good cook, etc- deliver a meal); or perhaps our resources (what we can give).

Practice it each day. Model it for your children. My mother Kris Fairless certainly did that for us three girls….

Growing up, my mom would give generously, even when we couldn’t afford it. For years I watched her give above her means, and somehow all of our needs were met. I believe the spirit of generosity is the greatest gift you can model for your children. When we used to have birthday parties growing up, my mom wouldn’t allow us to have a party unless we invited ALL of the little girls in each class in our grade level (yes, they were big birthday parties). But no one was ever left out. I’ve grown to have a huge love for others, a compassionate heart, and to this day, I refuse to leave people out. My main motto “the more the merrier”! After all, we are blessed to be a blessing. Our LIFE and our LOVE is a gift to the world. (As a result of a life lived for giving, my mom has lived an incredibly blessed life, and now has three grown girls who love God, love people, and give generously–one of the greatest gifts a parent could wish for).

What needs do you have in your life today?

Do you desire deeper and more meaningful relationships and friendships? Focus on being a friend! I will never forget moving to our new home 18 months ago, praying for true friends–friends who are like family. In order to make friends, I had to be a friend. I put myself out there, and joined a women’s club on our lake. I would anxiously wait by the window with my purse for my neighbor to pick me up for a luncheon (kind of like a kid waiting with their backpack for the bus, on the first day of school.) My neighbors are now family to us. I would also host events at my home for friends, even was I was the “new kid on the block.” I recently had a group of girlfriends over for a gift exchange, and I look at the pictures of my “Favorite Things” Party from the weekend, and think of God’s goodness and grace as He answered my prayer. I now have friends who are family to me. To have a friend, we must be a friend. Check out the “besties” God blessed me with…

Friendship is the Greates Gift

Instead of focusing on receiving your blessing, be a blessing during this season. Sow a seed in your time of need, and watch the most beautiful life (and relationships) bloom before you.

You may be thinking “I read your blog for tips to rock my network marketing business. How does this apply to me?” We are in the “relationship business”. By focusing on developing relationships, and remembering to focus on “T.I.N.Y.” (their interests, not yours) your friendships will develop, your connections will increase, and as a result your business will grow too! If you “liked” what you learned, don’t forget to share this with your team–when you grow your team’s culture with a “spirit of generosity” with “people” as a focus, you will be unstoppable!

“The Gift” Series–Your Love is a Gift

This month I am starting a series on the blog called “The Gift”. During December society places so much focus on giving material gifts–I want us to focus on the gifts we can give to others through sharing our lives, and our love. When we live with purpose, and on purpose–I believe that success follows. In fact, when Phil and I committed to increase our giving this year (through opening our orphanage and giving to many different ministries and projects), all of our businesses were accelerated and grew exponentially in 2014–and aside from giving more, we didn’t do anything different this year (don’t get me wrong–we’ve always worked hard though!) I firmly believe when you bless others you will be blessed.

Let’s talk about how this applies, and I’ll share more about our recent trip…

Often times we question the purpose and plan for our life–and if what we do makes a difference, and when times are tough, whether we will ever see our dreams come to pass. I remember the challenges I faced when we started our business–failing forward, facing rejection, feeling self-doubt. I wondered if we would ever see our dreams (our reason “WHY”) come to pass.

One of the first things I did when I started my network marketing business was to write out my reason “why”. I remember working with one of my mentors who asked me: “Sarah, what’s your reason ‘WHY’? Why are you doing your business? What will success in this business mean to you?”

I told her: “I want to start a foundation for children that is fully funded through my network marketing business. It will provide housing, education, nutrition, and mentorship.”

Impressed, she asked: “ And how much will that cost?”

“Millions” I told her.

She proceeded to ask: “And how does that feel?”

“I have to admit, it’s overwhelming,” I said.

You see, my why was so big, that at times instead of serving as a motivator, it would demotivate me. I was so overwhelmed by my dream that I often felt defeated, which is why it was easy for me to want to quit when I got discouraged. I never really felt like it would be possible to realize my dreams.

She then gave me the best advice– to break down my reason why into achievable goals so I could celebrate small successes on the way to my big dream. I started a separate bank account, which would allow me to put aside a portion of my check each month and do something nice for a family in need. As my checks grew, so did the impact we were able to have on others. We sent a mom’s young boys to fine arts camp. We covered medical bills. We built a few ramps for people with physical impairments. We provided holidays to families in need. We traveled to India to help open up orphanages. We were able to give our time, talent, and resources to many causes that tugged at our hearts. When I focused on the growing impact that my giving had on other’s lives, it helped me to overcome the fears that I faced in my business–and challenged me to do so much more! In fact, people often ask why my husband and I don’t retire (which we could at this point in our career)–I always say “there’s so much more we can do! There are so many more lives we can change!”…

Our recent goal was to open a home for 100 children in India. We just returned from our trip–there’s nothing like seeing your reason WHY in action…We just met our 117 “sons”!

Thanks to the success we’ve experienced in our network marketing business, we were able to build a home for 117 orphans, and travel to India to dedicate the home this December. We welcomed 117 “angels” to their new home, and their new lives! It was the most life-changing experience…not just for them, but for us.

When we arrived, we were welcomed by the entire village with a parade they created in honor of this new home, which is also a blessing to the community (as we built a church there, and a fresh water well that the community will be able to partake in). They pulled us up on a cart, led by oxen…and when we arrived, the boys threw flowers in our hair (they thought it was hilarious watching the flowers stick in mine!) It was the neatest experience to see the community come together in honor of these angels!

Every boy greeted us with their name, and extended their hands and hearts to us. Many don’t know their birthday, so we had one large birthday party celebrating this new day for them! We dedicated a fresh water well, the church, and their new home to them. It was amazing seeing their faces as they ran to their beds for the first time. Apparently when we left, the children thought it was a joke, and that the beds were not theirs and were going to be taken away. It was precious…they asked if they were supposed to sleep “separately” now…because before we came to give them their home, they slept on a small dirt floor together, with a roof that was caving in over their heads–on mats. They now have beautiful bunk beds, mattresses, and bedding, and a safe shelter to sleep in.

We were able to pray with the children, and play with the children–Phil taught them Duck Duck Goose (which was very interesting with over 100 boys!!! I just prayed no one did a face plant!) We were able to take pictures of each child so we can pray over them daily. And it was incredible to give them their backpacks for school. Once they have this physical address it entitles them to go to school, and get 1 free meal per day at school…and the “house parents” give them another large meal daily.

Can you believe…there is one set of parents (and a lot of local support) who were already taking care of these orphaned boys? They faithfully supported these children for over 20 years…with no recognition, and nothing special from the government. Just out of the goodness of their hearts as there are well over 25 million homeless children in India. We honored their faithfulness with this new home for the children. We also met a very old woman living on the property (she was blind). She used to be very wealthy and sold EVERYTHING she owned to give to these children all she had. These are the true heroes–those who gift their love and lives to others.

We were told by community leaders that if these children do not get help, they will end up in gangs, and literally living alone on the streets, in the slums (In certain parts of India, it’s not uncommon to see children roaming the streets, all alone.) During our first visit to India, they had just found a child buried alive alongside the railroad tracks (at age 4)–little fingers and toes sticking out. They brought the child to one of the homes to live.

We have left our hearts in India, and we are committed to go back regularly, and to continue to do more. No one would ever know the need until they saw it. Nothing can describe it. The greatest accomplishment of our life is nothing compared to the privilege we feel being able to love, support, father/mother/ mentor, and pour into these 100 little lives who will change future generations. We know the reason we are blessed is simply to be a blessing–so we can love more, and give more. OUR LOVE, AND LIFE, IS A GIFT!

Our business model allows us to impact and influence thousands of lives through our opportunity and products. The success from our business also provides us the time and resources to be able to impact and influence many more lives, around the world, in a meaningful way.

As YOU prepare for this holiday season, think about ways that you can make a difference in the lives of others too, and share the gift of LOVE with others.

I sometimes get a little uneasy when people say: “I wish I could bless people like you—I don’t have the money…” Why can’t you be a blessing with your time, and volunteer–or be a friend to others? Why can’t you be a blessing with your talent, and do something nice for another individual, family, or organization? And if you have the resources, use them to make a difference in the lives of others…you CAN make a difference. No matter the measure–start giving of your LOVE, and LIFE today. I believe as you give, you will see the fruits of that in the success of your business, career, etc–and as your success grows, so will the measure that you are able to give. Start today. Start small. If we all did just a little, imagine the great impact it would have on the world!

This life is not our own– We all have a divine purpose and plan for our life.

Focus on being a blessing—somewhere, someone is waiting for you.

Meet a need—your needs will be met.

Be a blessing—your life will be blessed.

Be a friend—your relationships will be fulfilling.

It is our hearts desire that you walk out your “WHY”! Never quit..it’s not always easy, but it is so worth seeing your reason WHY in action! Other people’s blessings are tied to your obedience/perseverance/and passionate hard work.

My 65 Pound Weight Loss Journey

As I write this I have tears in my eyes. I have battled my weight for many years–and while some would conclude this statement with “…and I finally won”, I would instead say, “I am winning every day”. I will never be done eating healthy, exercising, and committing myself to healthy habits daily. Truth be told, I’d like to lose a few more pounds + tone up a bit–but for the first time in a long time, I’ve decided to be content with where I am at on my journey, and know that I will get there–with time, and daily discipline.

I choose to celebrate my progress, and be content with my body, no matter the season–I will just dress to flatter my figure and celebrate the HEALTHY BODY God has given me.

No more “fad diets” (which destroyed my metabolism and made me gain more weight than I lost!) Only healthy, sustainable choices every day…because ultimately I am choosing health and happiness for me–and for my family (it is a GIFT I can give my children + grandchildren someday!)

Since I made that choice, I no longer have the looming thoughts of being disappointed in myself. I am free in my mind in this area–with all of the good things going on in my life I finally decided that I no longer have time for any negative recurring thought in my mind. I’ve conquered so much in my 30+ years–it was time that I committed to my health and my mindset regarding my weight.

People have asked so many times–“what is your secret?” The truth be told–there is no secret! I eat REAL, clean food–choose to move EVERY DAY (something I enjoy–walks, a workout, etc)–and I drink lot of water (half my body weight, in ounces daily!), and I repeat this EVERYDAY.

And as it relates to mindset, there is a verse that says “It’s not what goes into the mouth that defiles the man, but rather what comes out of the mouth”.

In other words, your life is a self-fulfilling prophesy! You should never say things about yourself that you wouldn’t say to another person. Are you abusing yourself, or punishing yourself with your words? Equally important to what you eat is what you SPEAK! Be sure your mindset and your words align with your desired outcome! It’s time to be THANKFUL today–celebrate your progress, give thanks everyday for your health! And if you trip up, give yourself permission to begin NEW each day! It’s a choice that only YOU can make.

Is it hard? YES! But you know what is also hard? Being sick and unhealthy. PICK YOUR HARD. Choose YOU today!

The same is true with my business–people ask many times– “what is the secret to your success?” The truth be told–there is no secret! I started my business as a broke, shy, young kindergarten teacher–with no network, and I was in a business of networking! I poured a lot of time into professional development, and I got out and did the work everyday–even when I was shy, scared, and afraid! I went to networking events–ALONE! I made a few phone calls–EVERY DAY! Just like weight loss, I was focused on daily activity (a few new contacts every day), I was tracking my results by making daily notes in my planner, and did consistent activity over a long period of time (12 years!) Success did not happen over night! In fact, I used to cry wondering when I’d ever make enough to match my teacher’s income ($1,100 every two weeks–of which I had to pay for school supplies out of that budget!) Today we are more than blessed to be a blessing.

Was it easy? NO! Was it worth it? You bet! Now I can live more, give more, and experience life more–all while being 65 pounds lighter (*smile!)

Is it hard to build a successful business? YES! But you know what is also hard?

Struggling financially. PICK YOUR HARD. Choose YOU today!

Enough about me…let’s talk about you…

What do you need to conquer during this season of your life? What are those looming thoughts you need to tackle? Is it weight loss? Is it success in your business? You only have one precious life–and you deserve to live more, give more, love more, and experience the best of life more. Your legacy deserves it (children, grandchildren, those you love, those you lead!) It’s time to tackle these obstacles and pursue your victory–every single day! Set your “Big goal” for yourself–then break it down into daily activity–what do you need to do to get there? Whose help do you need?

Maybe you need an accountability partner working toward a similar goal? If it’s weight loss, join the gym together–split a training package–go to Weight Watchers as a team. If it is a business goal, find anyone in your company (I don’t care if they are on your team or not). Agree to check in with each other weekly and ask each other: “how many calls did you make this week? Who is your hottest prospect, and how can I help you close them?” Agree to be “results oriented”, positive, collaborative, solution-oriented, and encouraging. People think they need to “work with a leader” to be successful–and that’s not the case. Like weight loss- YOU KNOW WHAT YOU NEED TO DO! It’s about working with someone who is going for the same goals, and doing consistent activity–every single day. Let’s consider weight loss for a moment–I’m not going running with my marathon-running buddy Stephanie Goetz (heck, I don’t run unless someone is chasing me). Do I aspire to be fit like her? YES! But I have to start somewhere– and initially that walking with a buddy at my pace. Find your partner, start today!

Today is your day. You are seeing this for a reason. Don’t let one more day go by–one more looming thought go through your mind. Set the goal. Write it down (NOW!) Break that big goal into monthly goals–then break that into daily activity goals for what you need to do to get there. Find an accountability partner and go through a program together. Give yourself the time it takes. Never quit. YOU DESERVE TO LOVE YOUR LIFE AND HAVE VICTORY!!!

If I could reach through this screen right now and hug you–I would. I love you enough to post this “Before” picture–I literally had to dig through my home to find a picture of me at my heaviest. I never took pictures, and the ones I had, I hid. But I care about you enough to share my long and sometimes painful journey with you (it took 10 years to loose the weight)–Today I simply want to encourage you–that if I can do it (weight loss- over ten years, business success- over 12 years), SO CAN YOU! You are beautiful, you are capable, you are MORE THAN A CONQUERER! As my mentor the late Christian Diaz would say, “You are exceptional, and bound for greatness!” #LetsDoThis!

Hey there rock stars! Kids are back in school- we are more focused on our business than ever before! It’s like a whole new year in the network marketing world! I’ve been spending time refreshing and revisiting my list–and have plans to recruit like a rock star this fall! One of the primary ways that I LOVE to generate leads is through social media…

Social media is not the only way, but rather a way to power prospect for new customers and distributors! Remember-nothing takes the place of bringing the conversation offline to tell them more about your business or product, but it is a great way to start up a conversation. How to Plan a ROCKIN Retreat For Your Team- Team Retreat Ideas for Network Marketing, Direct Sales, MLM and all sales teams:

Hey there rock stars, Sarah “Rockin” Robbins here–we just came off of one of the best weekends with our rockstars– a weekend retreat for our top leaders at the lake homes of myself and my mom Kris (who is also a top leader in our company!) This retreat was one of the best investments we could make in our leaders–as we all grew in belief, and spent a great deal of time brainstorming and bonding. Many remarked that it was the best experience they’ve had in business so far–and I’d have to agree!

Planning a team retreat doesn’t have to be difficult, and it needn’t be expensive. In fact planning a retreat at our homes allowed guests to feel cozy, and it also keeps cost manageable as well. Whether you have a total team of 10, or a leadership team of 10 or more, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate them–and come together to build culture and create community! Because of the large size of my organization, I plan to do an annual summer retreat for leaders to focus and prepare for the fall, and to do a intimate retreat for my personal team to plan ahead for the New Year!

Thursday

Guests arrived Thursday, and I gave them a list of my favorite places to go! Giving people free time is important and appreciated!

Friday

1o-11 Opening Activity- we greeted guests at the door with a mimosa and a smile! We took a team picture together and then went into the opening activity. We did an ice breaker where each girl wrote down 1 FUN or FUNNY fact about themselves that no one would know. We put the fact in a bucket, and read them aloud. The gals guessed who it was–if they guessed correct they got to pick a fun mug (I spent months picking out fun, inspirational mugs!) The person whose fact it was got to then introduce themselves to the group! We laughed a lot. It was a relaxing, and fun way to get to know each other. They filled that fun mug up with coffee, got breakfast, and we went right into training!

11-12 Leadership Training- we had a special guest speak on “Gracious Leadership”. It was one of the best leadership trainings I’ve heard on how to create gracious leadership, and how to leave people with dignity, no matter what!

12-1 Lunch! We had salads and wraps catered in–and provided plenty of healthy fruits/snacks/ drinks throughout the day!

1-4 Bonding time! We live on a lake so we were blessed to be able to surf/ski, boat/bond, swim/sun, etc at my home. You could do outdoor or indoor games as an alternative….or if the weather is not great, do a movie day with popcorn!

6-9 We all met at a local mall and ordered salads and pizzas to share! We then went on a scavenger hunt. CLICK HERE to download Scavenger Hunt Ideas and Team Buiding Ideas I created, and feel free to modify for your team. You can search the hashtag #RFEliteRetreat on Instagram to see copies of pictures the girls took from the scavenger hunt! How fun! We had 4 teams–the first one back to complete all the challenges, and to have posted them on Instagram as proof, wins! (They had to use our hashtag for the event!) This was hysterical!

Saturday

10-12 Training- We broke up back into our scavenger hunt groups, and each were given the task to share our best Time-Saver with our small groups (systems that make your business operate more efficiently and allow you to be more effective as a leader), and Team-Builder (best practice for creating momentum, duplication, and growth on your team). We recorded the ideas, and reported them to the larger group afterward. (*many remarked that this was the best leadership training they had in business because of how much they learned from each other. You don’t have to create fancy trainings to be effective! Give people the opportunity to share, grow, and learn from each other!) At the end, we took a little bit of time planning out Q4 (which is like a new year in our profession). 12-1 Lunch! We had a yogurt breakfast bar with toppings, a salad bar for lunch, and a dessert bar with toppings all catered by my sister Dashing Dish (her cookbook comes out later this year! Stay tuned!) People loved the idea of “creating their own meals!” It was simple and easy to prepare too!

1-4 Bonding Time! Today we were at my mom’s house. We had massages/manicures set up, boating and jet skiing, and volleyball too!

6-12 Backyard BBQ/ Celebration at my house! This was a night of fun and a celebration, and a show of appreciation for our awesome leaders! We had a deejay & dancing, a s’mores station and sparklers, and a firepit and photobooth! It was such a blast to dance the night away!

Sunday

We had a optional sunrise service.

The Why Behind the What– The Importance Of Knowing Your Reason “WHY” in Network Marketing

One of the most important exercises you can do as you begin your business (and as you begin new partners in business) is to identify your “Reason Why”. What is driving you emotionally to develop a successful business? Your “why” is your long term vision for success in your business.

Let me ask you a few questions: If time and money were no issue, how would your life look? Where would you live? What would you drive? What would you do with your time? Would you have any debt? In other words, what will a successful business do for your life, your family’s life, and your lifestyle?

I want you to clearly write down why you are doing your business. The more specific, the more powerful it will be! Make it compelling so it causes you to find the time, face your fears, and persevere!

Is your reason “why” to have a college fund for your children, to pay off debt, buy your dream home, become more self-reliant, are you funding your retirement? For me, I wanted to start a foundation for women and children that I would fund through my business

One of the first things I did when I started my network marketing business was create my reason “why”. I remember working with one of my mentors who asked me: “Sarah, what’s your reason why?”

I told her: “I want to start a foundation for children that is fully funded through my network marketing business. It will provide housing, teaching and training for mothers, and a camp for kids!”

Impressed, she asked: “ And how much will that cost?”

“Millions” I told her.

She proceeded to ask: “And how does that feel?”

“I have to admit, it’s overwhelming,” I said.

She then gave me the best advice, to break down my reason why into achievable goals so I could celebrate small successes on the way to my big dream. I started a separate bank account, which would allow me to put aside a portion of my check each month and do something nice for a family in need. As my checks grew, so did the impact we were able to have on others. We sent a mom’s young boys to fine arts camp. We covered medical bills. We built a few ramps for people with physical impairments. We provided holidays to families in need. We traveled to India to help open up orphanages. We were able to give money to many causes that tugged at our hearts. Now I was motivated! Now I was being driven by my dreams.

I’ve heard people in the profession say that your why should make you cry. What that means is that your why should move you emotionally, and keep you enthusiastic about this business during the ups and downs that any entrepreneur can face. It helps you to discipline your disappointments, not to deviate from your mission, and it keeps you driven by your dream!

Everyone has ups and downs, challenges and achievements, disappointments and success. When you are clear about your Reason Why, you will continue to be driven by your dream, rather than being fueled by your disappointments. Take time to write down (or revisit) your “WHY” today–share it with your sponsor, significant other, or your accountability partner. Post it where you will see it. Revisit it from time to time. As your success grows, so will your goals and achievements.

We just took one more big step toward our WHY, and opened up an orphanage for 100 boys in India! Currently the sister project (a neighboring home for the little girls) is set to open this December 2015!
