Finding Your Purpose, Fueling Your Passion, Understanding Your “WHY”

A wise Proverb reads: “Where there is no vision, the people perish”.

I have seen this ring true for many that we lead, minister to, and connect with on a daily basis; “Dead men walking”—people with no vision, no hope, no joy, no passion, and no purpose in life. So many people have been victims of “identity theft”—they are victims of circumstance, not knowing who they are or where they are going. Therefore the littlest things (or sometimes the toughest tragedies) derail them and they want to give up.

Don’t be a victim of “identity theft”–know WHO you are and WHERE you are going in life!

When you know WHO you are, and WHERE you are going, and WHY you are doing what you do—you have the VISION to succeed, and the PASSION to proceed daily, regardless of situation or circumstance.

You see, since we started our business 6 years ago (we call it our “marketplace ministry”) we’ve encountered trials, tests, even terrible tragedy during this time. But because we know our purpose, and our passion we have become unstoppable—we learn to respond to situations as they come (all while keeping our team on track), and keep in mind our mission: to 1) Love God 2) To Love The People We Lead 3) To Feed Orphans. Because we know our mission, nothing can steal our vision.

I recently had a talk with a woman who told me her reason “Why”—which was to prove her husband wrong, and to show him she could be successful in business. We had a great talk—and I reminded her that this was not going to be enough. Her mission couldn’t be about getting back—but needed to be about giving back—to her family, herself, and any other passions or people that were important in her life. The truth is—she isn’t responsible for her husband’s happiness, and he isn’t responsible for hers. Their approval of one another ultimately shouldn’t cast the deciding vote. We talked about her revisiting her reason “why”—what was she truly passionate about? What would be her motivator in business and in life when times were tough

What is your purpose? What are you passionate about? I am passionate about helping children and families in need. I used my network marketing business as a financial vehicle to pursue my passion and fund our ministries, and in the process found great passion and purpose in leading those and loving those that are a part of our team. Nothing could keep me from being my very best for them, at all times.

Because we know where we are going—as a team we are unstoppable. No situation or circumstance will derail us. No feeling of defeat or discouragement will distract us permanently. No tragedy will triumph our victory. Our past won’t dictate our future. And no one else (nor their decisions or opinions) determines our destiny

You need to know where you’re going in life. It’s vital that you have an identity. We’ve been called to lead multitudes—we can’t afford to lose our passion or to deviate from our purpose. What about you? If you miss out on your calling, many more may be missing out on theirs too. Take some time today—write down what you’re passionate about. Define your purpose or reason “why” as we call it in the networking profession. Make a decision to work toward it—quitting is not an option. Become unstoppable—people are waiting for YOU!  It’s time to LIVE your LIFE—undistracted, undefeated, UNSTOPPABLE! Know who you are and where you’re going!

You may have something BIG to overcome because your purpose is very big. God is making you stronger! Keep going. Walk in faith & favor. Discover your destiny! DON’T GIVE UP!

I QUIT!

Have you ever lost heart? Have you ever wanted to quit? Have you felt discouraged, defeated, or distracted because of someone else’s success, or your lack thereof?

 

I know I have.

I recently had a friend call me to ask me how “so-and-so” was succeeding, and why things weren’t going the same for her. We’ve all been there before….

Today—I want to help you to put this feeling into perspective and put your emotions in their place in order to help you finish your race, at the pace that is planned for your life.

Have you ever thought that perhaps those people were placed in your life to encourage you? People who are more successful than you are—have stronger marriages, or experiencing great accomplishments to show you what is possible?

When you see or hear about other people succeeding or doing what you want to do, don’t get jealous. Don’t think “this is never going to happen for me” or “they had exceptional breaks in their business”. Get rid of that negative thinking! Get beyond the barriers of the past and expect great things for YOUR life .

Perhaps these people have been placed in your life to inspire you. When you see their joy, victory, and achievement say “I am so happy for them! I know I can be blessed in a similar way! I know I can have a successful business! I know I can have a great marriage! I know I can be happy!”

There’s a seed inside of you trying to take root right now. Hope and expectancy can bring forth a tremendous harvest in your life! You may be struggling right now—but it’s time for promotion!  Don’t look to the left, don’t look to the right—don’t look at what others are doing. Look ahead, and be focused on your goals and celebrate your growth along the way!

When we waste valuable energy comparing ourselves to others we are overlooking our potential, and the opportunity for growth in our own life. We might be trying to emulate something someone else is doing, and in the meantime missing our calling because we aren’t doing what we are supposed to be doing! We may have been given a way to do things bigger, and better—but perhaps we’ve missed it as our focus is placed on the wrong things!

Focus on YOUR MISSION and increase YOUR VISION! It’s your time to shine!

I just got done training my team on how to launch their businesses with VBLS (Virtual Business Launches)–and I wanted to share with you some best practices and tips! Before I do–I want to announce the winner of my BIG BIRTHDAY GIVEAWAY that I shared on last week’s blog post!

Speaking of launches, today I want to talk to you about how to launch markets that are out of your area… with V.B.L.’s!

What is a VBL?–it is a cross between a live event and an opportunity call, and it allows you to present powerfully with your team from anywhere in the world. VBLs come in handy when you are growing a market out of state (or the country) and it allows you to support a growing team there! They don’t take the place of in-person events that your team members will have with their local market, but it serves as a great support tool!

Here’s the types of technology I like to use for virtual launches and presentations:

Skype– (which has a video component). I’ve heard some like Facetime for one-on-ones. For large groups, I like to hook my computer up to my TV and Skype someone in to share so they see them on the “big screen”!

Instant Teleseminar or FreeConferencing.Com– (which have visual components like screen share, and allow you to show powerpoints and visuals)

Pick a service, do some research, call their customer service department to do a walk-through, google tutorials, practice, etc!

Here are a few tips on VBLS: What to do Pre-, During, and Post-Event:

  1. Pre-event:
    Focus on inviting- with virtual events, there is no accountability,  so “no shows” are common. Connect personally and tell them you’re excited they are coming–along with giving a personal invitation. Send invites and follow up with a call or text or personal FB message: “I just sent you an email inviting you to my virtual launch of my new business. It’s 15 mins of your time. You simply hop onto a call & get a free gift for doing so. I think you’ll love it!” Use it as an opportunity to connect with people–and this way they can see what you’re up to!
  1. During the Event:
    Give an engaging presentation! Show pictures of you and family–share your story and reason “why”–share your company story (more about your products and opportunity–and share success stories too)!  End with a clear Call To Action: Text me to say you were on and get a free gift (this allows you to follow up)! Offer gifts with purchase by a certain date, etc!
  2. Post Event:
    Follow up! “I called to talk about the free gift–have a minute? What did you think of the launch? What questions did you have? Can I give you a recommendation  for your skin? (cater to your product and what you offer) –Then transition into the business: “I think the business would be a great fit for you too, because… (personalize the conversation). Do you have any interest?” Follow up AGAIN after they get the free product–“how are you loving it? Would you like to get started on a full skincare regimen so you can truly dive in and get onto the journey of the best skin of your life?” (again, cater to your product)

You can also do these VBLS regularly with your entire team, and allow them to invite their guests on weekly –to build interest and exposure! The more people you get your products and opportunity in front of, the greater the chance you have of ROCKIN your home based business!

The world’s system creates a culture of competition—

Look at the iPhone—you never knew you wanted the new model until you saw your friend had it, right?

Look at our idols/icons—the pressure and the push to be perfect sometimes over-comes their character and core beliefs.

Take Lance Armstrong for example. When Lance Armstrong was asked by Oprah if he would have won so many times if he hadn’t doped, he said “doubtful”.  Can you imagine the pressure he faced to keep up his stats and status?

If there’s one thing I’ve learned: it’s never to judge people—because we never know the pressure they face or feel. No one is perfect.

For myself, I’ll be honest—I’ve compared myself to leaders and speakers, thinking how I could ever “talk like them”, “train like them”, or “lead like them”.

I’ve come to the realization that the only thing I should be working on or worried about, is being the best version of “me” I can be. Being the best leader I can be.  I should only focus on my goals and growth along the way.

I’m not meant to lead everyone—therefore I won’t please everyone—so I shouldn’t focus on those that have “left”, I should only focus on those that I am called to “lead” –and focus on growing personally, and professionally along the way.

We are too distracted to notice the gifts in front of us because we are too busy focusing on what others have been gifted with!

We have to give that up today. It’s time to stop struggling, striving, comparing, and competing. The death of contentment is comparison. Competition takes you captive. Focus on YOUR calling. It’s time to be FREE!

Never forget who YOU are, what YOU do best, and how many people will be inspired by YOU being authentically YOU! It’s time to celebrate YOUR uniqueness! The privilege of a lifetime is to be who YOU are!

I’ll never forget opening up my emails to find a message from my good friend Jordan who shared with me an article entitled: “The Price of the Promise–The Power of Network Marketing”. This was back in the day–when I was paying bills with change, just starting my career as a network marketing professional.

This article changed my life. It got me through the “no’s”, and helped me push past the ones who “quit” and served as a source of inspiration in my career–and today I’m earning a multi-million dollar per year income in the network marketing profession.

A few years later, I found myself speaking on stage, alongside industry legends like Jordan, sharing my stories, and providing inspiration for the future leaders that are coming up in our profession. I’ll share with you more on that below…

But first–I want to share with you one little article that made a big difference in my life. A true story of of leaders in our profession who worked through the numbers, and found out their own set off odds, and achieved really powerful things in our profession:

The Price of the Promise–The Power of Network Marketing

Mark Yarnell, minister in a small town in Texas, was headed for bankruptcy and just about to lose his car and home. He looked for a way out and discovered network marketing. Luckily, he had a wise sponsor.

The sponsor gave Mark “THE PROMISE“. “This business can set you free financially in one to three years.” But he also gave him “THE PRICE” “To succeed, you will have to face and conquer 4 major enemies.”

Mark said, “It’s a deal.”

Mark began by inviting 200 friends over to his house to watch a video. 80 said “No, not interested”

– Mark had encountered ENEMY #1: Rejection.

He thought, “No problem. My sponsor warned me about that. I’ve got120 people still coming over.” Guess what?

– He had just encountered ENEMY #2: Deception.

Mark thought, “No problem. My sponsor warned me about that. I’ve got 70 people who watched the tape.” Guess what? 57 said “Not Interested”.

– He had just encountered ENEMY #3: Apathy.

Undaunted, Mark thought, “No problem. 13 people signed up.” Guess what? 12 of them dropped out of the business shortly thereafter.

– He had just encountered ENEMY #4: Attrition.

Attrition had left Mark with just one serious associate. But to this day, that single distributor earns Mark over $50,000 per month.

Mark Yarnell’s story is NOT Unique!

You may have heard of Bill Britt, one of the most successful distributors in Amway. Some years ago, 20/20 did a feature story on Amway. They spent 19 minutes interviewing whiners and complainers – several distributors who had failed and showed the garages full of products they couldn’t sell. During the last minute of the show, Mr. Britt was interviewed in front of his palatial home. He was asked, “Mr. Britt, this business has obviously worked for you. What’s your secret?”

He replied, “There is no secret. I simply showed the plan to 1200 people. 900 said, ‘No’ and only 300 signed up. Out of those 300, only 85 did anything at all. Out of those 85 only 35 were serious, and out of those 35, 11 made me a millionaire.” Like Mark Yarnell, Bill worked through the numbers.

Jason Boreyko, former co-founder of New Vision, told this story recently. When he was a distributor in Matol, he signed up 50 people. He heard a lot of “No’s” on the way to those 50. Jason took one man, who he knew would be terrific in the business to lunch, told him about the business and the man said “No.” Jason took the man to lunch again the next month and told him the updates. Once again the man said, “No.” Jason sent him some more information and took him to lunch again the next month. And again the man said, “No.” That went on for six months. The seventh month, something had changed for the man, and he said, “Yes.” That man made Jason over one million dollars. Jason also worked through his numbers.

According to Richard Poe in Wave Three while starting Amway, Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel, America’s eleventh richest people, recruited 500 people. 495 dropped out. The five that didn’t quit built Amway. All $7 billion of Amway’s business was built under those 5 people. Jay and Rich had to work through their numbers. There are many similar stories. Jeff, the top money earner in Mannatech, signed up 27 people his first month.

One might think that he is especially talented at sponsoring. Actually, Jeff will be the first to tell you that he is not talented at all.

In fact, he feels that he did very poorly. To recruit those 27, Jeff talked to 2000 people that first month. And of the 27, the only one who did anything significant with the business was Ray Gebauer, who has more than half of Mannatech in his downline.

Jeff’s word to you is that the numbers never lie. Pick your goal and then get into massive action. If you talk to enough people, you will make it!

Sarah’s Story and Her Numbers:

I’ve probably talked to thousands of people since I started my business 5 years ago. I’ve had over 100 join me. I have about 30 people working this business at a moderate pace. As of today, I have 10 top leaders in our plan at this time, and of those about 3 people who account for a good majority of my income. What happened to the rest? Some order product, some occasionally promote, and unfortunately some decide the timing isn’t right for them.  As with any profession, there is power in working through your odds to find leaders and pace setters It takes a lot of “sifting” until you “strike gold!” You never know what people will do–or who they will lead you to.

I’ve found the same stats and percentages to be pretty similar industry wide.—as it relates to how many you must personally talk to, and sponsor before you strike gold. I was asked on stage at a major industry event last year, with the #1 earner of his company, my friend, Jordan Adler. He brought up several top earners of different companies, with different products and payplans…some of us having a few years experience in the profession, some having over 20 years. He asked us each how many people we’ve sponsored and of those how many account for 80% or more of our income. The results were very similar.

We’d been in the business anywhere between 5-25+ years. We sponsored anywhere between 50-100+ over time. Most of us had 80% of our income coming from anywhere between 1-3 legs, tops!

The major growth of your organization will probably be tied to just 2-3 people too. But you never know  how many conversations you’ll have, or how many people will join you before you find them! So get ready to talk it up!  The more people you share this with, the better your odds of finding your power partners!

Here’s the lesson:

Your success is directly related to the degree to which you are willing to work to find others like yourself who are committed to succeed. Mark Yarnell’s odds were 1 out of 50. (Jeff’s were really 1 out of 2000.) Would you be willing to go through 200 people to find the 1 who will make you $50,000 a month? Or go through 200 people to become a millionaire? Or hear uncounted “No’s” to sign up 50 people to find a million dollar person? I hope you will. It’s easier when you know the odds up front.

But here’s the catch: You have your own set of odds and you won’t know what they are until AFTER YOU’VE SUCCEEDED. So if you’ve gone through 50 or 100 people and you haven’t found 1 serious person yet, you can either give up and assume the business doesn’t work or recognize that you are working through your own numbers.

Are you willing to find out what your own set of odds is?

That means that you must pay the price for freedom. Remember that the numbers never fail you. Despite where you are in your skill level, your success is assured if you talk to enough people. And as your skill improves, so will your odds.

There is no such thing as luck in this industry. Winning big is a matter of being willing to pay the price.

In this business of direct sales/network marketing, many people invest an enormous amount of effort and time in bringing in a new business partner.  But without setting the proper expectations and helping them get quick results (earn their ROI month one, achieve a company “fast start” bonus or goal, and get their first customer and partner), many new people leave this business before they even get started.

When I started with my company, my mom and I were two of the first distributors. We didn’t have training materials, trainers, or systems at the time. We had to develop those systems–and learn how to set expectations. As a result, we are both earning 6-figures MONTHLY with our company.

Last week’s blog post was on “systems” and how to get a new distributor started (I suggest you read it, as it compliments this post). This week I want to talk to you about setting expectations. Systems and setting expectations must go “hand in hand” when you are working with a new partner! Here’s a few things you must share with your new distributor to set realistic expectations as they enter into their partnership with you, and the company:

NetWORK Marketing Is WORK

In my professional opinion, we aren’t responsible for people’s success or failure (as this is independent business ownership)–but we are responsible to get them off to a great start. Let your new partner know that you will “match their efforts”–and be available for their prospecting calls, events, and “income producing activity”–but it’s up to them to take the initiative and work their prospect list, and incorporate prospecting into their daily lives. Teach them the sponsorship series (who to reach out to, language/ideas on how to reach out, what to invite them to next: a call with you or an event). Talk about activity goals (reach out to 3-5 people per day, and inviting them on a call with you–or to an event). Let them know you will partner with them from there in sharing the message, handling questions and objections, and asking them to join (on the products, in the business, or at the very least–you’ll ask them for referrals)! They bring the prospect to a call or meeting–you match their efforts from there in presenting and closing!

This Is Not “Get Rich Quick”

My very first check was under $50, and today I am earning a multiple six figure monthly income, but I’m here to tell you it didn’t happen overnight.  Teach your team members to earn “right now” money with upfront bonuses and product sales. Remind them that they  will make instant cash by selling our products, but to build a bigger paycheck, they’ll need to build a team of independent business owners who join you, and this takes time.  As a general rule, it takes about 18-24 months to become really competent. You’ll get to know the basics, you’ll cover expenses, and you’ll still be learning.  In most cases, it will take about 3-5 years of consistent effort to become a 6 -figure earner or above. It doesn’t mean you can’t make more than that in the short term, as many are. We just don’t to make promises as building a team, finding the right people to join you and the duplication process takes time. But all businesses take time to become highly successful. Develop a 3-5 year mindset: do not quit before then!

Delay is Not Denial

Not everyone is right for our business, and they won’t always see what you see.  Remind your newbies: When people tell you “no”, don’t take this as personal rejection. I want you to learn to take the pressure off when you’re prospecting. Think of it this way—you are just sharing & inviting. I don’t want you to be emotionally connected to the outcome. Think of yourself like a waiter or a waitress pouring a cup of coffee. A server is not offended when you say “no” to the coffee. They keep offering it to everyone. Take all emotions out of this- and if people say no, keep pouring. Some people say no now, but may change their mind later. Ask them to try your products, and keep pouring.  Sometimes your prospect just doesn’t have need of what you’re offering, or perhaps timing isn’t quite right.  Sometimes no simply means I don’t know enough about what you’re offering.  Other times it means “no, not right now”. They may decide to join you at a later time. Revisit them later.

Daily Activity is Critical

The last thing that I share with my new consultants is that activity matters the most. When I started I didn’t have training systems. What I did have mastered was a story and I told that story daily…my story, and the company’s story. I tell them that it doesn’t matter what the outcome is so much, but the goal is to share the story and get the message out. If it’s not for them, gain referrals. You can’t say the wrong thing to the right person who is interested in a business or your product! Teach them to reach out to 3-5 new people daily. Personal activity is the cure to what ails you in this business. If you talk to enough people over time, you will be successful!

Remember: Systems are important (finding out their “why”, goal setting, working their list & teaching a “sponsorship sequence”, and helping with their live and virtual launches.) But if you’ve not set expectations, you’re setting yourself and your new partner for disappointment.

Here’s the bottom line:

1) Set them up for success with getting started training/ “next steps”/ systems

2) Set expectations

3) Match effort

And continue to start the process with new people, regularly!

Hey there Rock Stars–Sarah “Rockin” Robbins here!

Today I wanted to chat about how you can help your Rock Stars get off to a great start–effectively enroll, and set the course for dynamic duplication—where the magic happens—as duplication is the key to long term success in our profession.

Since I started my business, I’ve personally prospected many people. I’ve had over 100 join my personal team, and have mentored ten top leaders who are duplicating larger organizations, allowing me to earn a multi-milllion dollar per year income. These 100 people led to a team of tens of thousands for us in a few short years. Now that’s the power of duplication—and guess what?! You can do this too!  Let’s talk about how.

I believe great success starts from the very enrollment appointment. When someone expresses interest in the business, I say “Great, the next steps are to set the enrollment appointment so I can help to get you started.” I never send people to my site to enroll alone. I like to walk them through the process, ensuring they get off to a great start by enrolling for a start up package and signed up for their autoship.

After your newbie enrolls, it’s a great opportunity to congratulate them, walk them through their team and company sites, and/or training sites too! Be sure they know how to access team materials, training calls, etc.  Sending them a welcome email with this information is a great idea! Be sure to set your time for training!

Training: as you work closely with new consultants during their first 30 days, I really place a lot of focus on their list and their launches:

During your first trainings you really want to focus on their list: who to invite (teach them where to look to find contacts–cell phone, facebook, company memory joggers, etc), how to invite (language) and what to invite them to (a “sponsorship series”–how to get them to a live meeting, or on a 3 way call with you).

The second thing you want to focus on is their  launches–hosted at their homes, or their friends homes a they “expand their business in their area”. Your goal is to help them get their opportunity and products in front of as many people as possible their first 30 days, and help them to earn the biggest check possible! If they are local, help them do the events! If they are long distance, skype in for their events! It’s also a great idea for them to host VBL’s too (virtual business launches) via Skye, Google Chats, or  programs like Instant TeleSeminar, so their friends around the globe can hear what they are up to! Be sure to teach them what to do pre-event, during the event, and how to follow up after the event!

Make sure to go over their reason “why”–discuss their goals, and company goals (any upfront bonus programs they can earn). When you focus on helping them to achieve success from the start, to help them earn their ROI immediately–  it helps them to remain enthusiastic, gives them a story to share with prospects–and not to mention…this pace duplicates! There truly is power in pace–the speed of the leader, is the speed of the team!

I always remind people: you aren’t responsible for people’s ultimate success or failure–that, we can’t claim. But we ARE responsible to get them off to a good start and really help them to begin working their list, and helping them with their launches during their first 30 days. Once you’ve done that you start again with someone new, and remain available for their 3 way calls, events, and keep them plugged into the system.

Remember: the cure to what ails you in your business is always personal activity. If you have been stuck at a certain volume and were on my team I would ask you: “how many people did you personally sponsor to get to that volume?” If you said: “10”. I would say, “to double your volume, sponsor 10 or more new people”. Same is true with title: to get what you got, do what you did to get there in the first place!

Don’t ever place blame on your team: success in this profession is all about making the first “CIRCLE” work: YOU! You can’t motivate the unmotivated–after all, isn’t it easier to give birth than it is to resurrect the dead? If you truly want to be extremely successful in this profession, you will NEVER stop sponsoring and starting newbies! I spend most of my time doing this, and working with true leaders. The rest stay plugged into our system for success.
